Updating

Ok so I'm going to try something different with my blog. So far it has mostly been about my time during my gap year and my travels, however as I am now back in England and my life has returned to some sort of normality, I feel my blog should do the same. Obviously there will still be the occasional post about a traveling adventure, when I remember to update it that is!

Being back at university as a postgrad has been a different experience to what I thought it would be. As a typical student there are days when I wonder why the hell I ever decided to do a PhD, but then there are days when I know I'm right where I should be. I'm now 18months in and what a turbulent 18months it has been. I've been trying for a while to get more involved in teaching and have now been given some part time hours teaching 2nd years. I've so far done 3 weeks of classes and have found it tough going but worthwhile. There's the obvious dealing with late students, mobile phones in the class and general chit chat when they should be working, but what is most rewarding is getting a student who is interested in the subject.

Today I'm preparing my 4th lesson for next week and with the sun shining outside and a bundle of different house chores to tend to, my concentration is waning slightly. Possibly also because I have just booked some flights to attend a family wedding abroad which is an exciting prospect! I'm also watching Loch Ness and reliving my childhood, I haven't seen this film in about 10years, although the difference from 10years ago is that I'm surrounded by work and things I really should be doing!

This week in general has been really stressful, although the highlight was a Rebecca Ferguson gig on Monday night. Her support act, Jay James Picton was amazing, and the lady herself was absolutely stunning. Her voice is incredible live as well as on CD and her rendition of Shoulder to Shoulder brought actual tears to my eyes. There are many singers in the world but none who have a voice as pure or powerful as hers.

Well I must get back to my lesson plan and I will endeavour to update my blog much more often!
